About this site
ukdemographics.co.uk is an independent demographic research project. It publishes one profile for each of 318 local authorities in England and Wales, built from named government tables, with every figure traceable to its source.
What it publishes
Each local authority profile brings together official statistics that are otherwise spread across several departments. The site also publishes 21 county council area profiles, a page for each English region and Wales, and pages for 631 of 650 constituencies.
- Office for National Statistics: Census 2021 tables TS021 (ethnic group), TS029 (English proficiency), RM134 (tenure by ethnic group) and RM043 (health by ethnic group), Census 2011 table KS201EW, and the mid year population estimates (MYE4).
- Department for Work and Pensions: National Insurance number registrations by nationality and Personal Independence Payment claimants, both from Stat-Xplore.
- Department for Education: the School Census, for pupil ethnicity and first language.
Every table is listed with its link on the sources page.
How the projections are made
Figures for future years are modelled, not observed, and the pages label them as projections. They come from a Hamilton-Perry cohort change model, currentlyv8.0, which carries each age, sex and ethnic group forward from the 2011 and 2021 Censuses.
The model is scored before publication. Fitted on the 2001 and 2011 Censuses and run one decade forward, it missed the actual Census 2021 White British share by 1.56 percentage points on average across 285 local authorities, with a bias of +0.05 points. The methodology page sets out the test, the settings it chose and what it does not establish.
How it is funded
The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or funded by any government body, political party, council or campaign organisation. It carries no advertising.
Reporting an error
Corrections are published, not hidden. A finding that has been revised says so beside its date, and the correction stays on the page with the figure it replaced.
To report an error, open an issue on the project's public repository atgithub.com/tompickup23/ukdemographics/issues. Give the page address, the figure, and the source table you checked it against.
What it does not collect
The site sets no cookies, has no accounts and asks for no email address. Page views are counted in total by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not follow visitors between sites. The privacy policy gives the detail.
Who runs it
The site does not name an individual. Its figures are there to be checked against the official tables they come from, not taken on anyone's authority.
